Song of the Day : Alice in Chains - It's Your Decision.

Yes, they were grunge, yes, they have very metal influences, yes, my tastes have changed since my grunge days. If a band from my grunge/post-grunge days came back... I'd listen but be very critical. I have found many bands to choose two paths when they come back. Either, they recapture their heyday and create music reminiscent of their era or they would try to do a completely different sound that would be more of what we are listening to at the moment. I actually have a problem with both possibilities. If they are trying to bring back music from 20 years ago, it's not gonna happen. We'll be nostalgic, but we won't embrace the music like we did. If they change their sound, it's not the band we remember. Yes it seem like a no-win situation, but there have been bands that span multiple generations, embracing the new trends while still having their distinct sound.

So why do I still like Alice in Chains? It's their distinct two-tone vocal melody. Layne Staley and Jerry Cantrell sang together in quite a few of their tracks, and though Layne took lead credit, it was how they sung together that made me appreciate Alice in Chains. When Layne passed away it seemed the band would not be the same. Not true. I think Jerry still does well and they brought in William DuVall. I don't think it was a replacement, but he has filled Layne's role well. I hear the melodies symbolic of Alice in Chains, and it does remind me of the 90s, but there is a slight difference not too new not too old.

Two songs... have been released form the new album and i liked both... the CD may be in my near future.
